CURRENTly watching…

I’ve become fascinated with current.tv in the last few days. I went searching (finally found it in the nose-bleeds of my cable channels) because I had heard of Hack the Debate – a special broadcast that mashed-up the debate broadcast with a live Twitter-feed from viewers.  It was a really interesting project, but the reason I continue to watch Current is because of what I saw when I was too lazy to change the channel AFTER the debate.

At the top of each hour, Current airs a news-feed of the top commented on stories posted by current.tv community members.

It’s fascinating viewing because it gives us an idea of what viewers would program (within a news-format) when given the opportunity.  The great thing about this is that you can see, at least once an hour, what news is hot with the early-adopter set of viewers who would be attracted to Current.

I’ve also loaded the current RSS onto my Google homepage.  Right now, the top stories are:

  • New Law to Allow Police to Collect DNA in Secret from Teacups – a British story, as one might guess
  • Scout Leaders to Give Sex Advice and “Emergency” Condoms
  • Colin Powell: So What if Obama Really Was a Muslim?
  • and lastly – Racist Obama Effigy Hung in Ohio

So the point about public relations really meaning PUBLIC relations?  Yeah, that’s already here and is likely to impact us all.

About Me

I'm a student in the Annenberg Program on Online Communities at the University of Southern California. I geek out easily on use cases and talking about almost any area of communications - which is fortunate since I have chosen communications (PR, online, marketing, anything really) as my career.

I read too much, craft too little and find try to remember to find big joy in small things. Oh, and the username DwriteN is reminiscent of an assigned e-mail address long ago.
